Where I’m From

Posted: May 24, 2011 in Uncategorized

I am from the place with no return.
From the fire that burns inside of me,
to the fire that burns in the wood stove.

I am from the place no one dares to enter…
but me. From the place where stones are like my heart,
cold but solid.

I am from 50 cent to Eminem
and then to Lil Wayne.
from “Easy come, easy go”,
from the birds chirping in the morning,
to the wolves howling at night.

From the place where the monsters hide in your closet
I am from a place where fear can not be hidden.

Purpose
To impress your friends teachers and family, and to have fun while doing math, get your teacher to do a task on tessellations. Your day will go by much faster it will be art and math mixed.

Materials
-Ruler
-And a Pencil
-Piece of card stock  paper 8.3 X 8.3
-A pair of scissors
-Any type of tape (only need 2 strips of about 3-5 cm long)
-A  piece of paper 45 X 30
-Something to colour with (Markers,Pencil Crayons,Crayons etc)

Procedure.
1. First take the ruler and draw an equal sided square with all the sides the same length  on the card stock.
2. Cut the square out.
3. Next on the one side of the square cut it out to make it look like the lid of a baby bottle. Make sure to go from one corner to the other.
4.Then on the right side of where the  cut is cut out another piece that looks like a isosceles triangle and again go from corner to corner.
5. After,  get the pieces that are cut out and tape them on the opposite sides as where the cuts are.
6. Once they  have been taped on,  grab the big piece of paper and put your frog on the middle of the paper and trace around your frog with a pencil.
7. After that its very easy keep tracing the frog around the first frog make them fit in like puzzle pieces. Make sure there are no spaces. Make slides, rotations, and reflections as long as
there are still no spaces.
8. Then on your frogs make one eye on each frog so they are looking to the right. And one mouth.
9. Finally when there are no spaces, colour it. Make a pattern out of the frogs, make the rows look nice by colouring it blue, green, blue, green (etc).

Hints
Use different colours just make sure they are in a pattern and everyone will like your art. Make it look different and it doesn’t matter what type of tape you have. And when you are putting the tape on, be, exact.

For my health project I thought about doing mine on obese people. And how to avoid becoming obese but I decided to do my health project on energy drinks. Energy drinks are something almost all of us have tried before some people like them some people don’t. As most people know they are loaded to the MAX with caffeine. Then why do people drink them? Most people drink them to stay alert or to help them get up in the morning. But in about an hour I bet they felt more tired then what they did when they were in bed. Once all of the caffeine has ran out people feel even more tired then what they did before. But what surprised me the most was adults are not the people who drink them the most young teens are. I learned alot from my Glogster and i hope you do to.  So  enjoy my Glogster on energy drinks.

The Word Shaker

Posted: January 27, 2011 in Uncategorized

Group #1  :  The Word Shaker

Now I know this looks a bit Juvenal but I can explain. The Idea Hive from Snow Lake Manitoba and Wingham Ontario are at it again with a new project. This time we are creating a story with in a story. The story is The Book Thief  Max (one of the characters) left Liesels house which he was living in. But left a book for her so are teacher gave us pictures of the story Max left for Liesel but did not give us the words. So we were to figure out the words were and we were put in groups two from Wingham and two from Snow Lake. We connected over chat rooms. Here are my partners names if you want to check out their blogs. Kori,Julianne,Shelby ENJOY

#1 When the Fuhrer took over the stores, he started to sell fear and hatred. People came into the store and bought little things to be one step closer to becoming like the Fuhrer.

#2 Now the Fuhrer is making the German people think exactly what he wants them to think. Playing them to do whatever he wants them to. Telling them what is right and wrong, that they need to reclaim their world.

#3 As something so small and unimportant has fallen into the Word Shaker’s hand. It will soon turn into something so remarkable. A seed of belief that will change the world.

#4 It is still small, but the Word Shaker will not let go of what she believes in so easily. She will put up a fight.

#5 When the tree is finally big enough, the Fuhrer sends his army to take it away. But the Word Shaker will still not giving up on what she believes in. She won’t give up on a better world.

#6 As the Fuhrer and his army come to take away what she believes in. The Word Shaker stands up even though she thinks she will lose because the other people are bigger than she. So she tries to protest to try and keep the tree standing there.

#7 As I, a bystander, walk by, I see the Word Shaker. I want to know why she is in the big tree. Maybe the Word Shaker will tell the me her story…

#8 So I climb up the giant tree that had once been only a such a small, unnoticed seed.

#9 Now that I am up in the tree I can see what she sees. I understand why she is up here, and why she does not want to let go of what she believes in.

#10 Now that we are up in the tree, together, the non – believers can not reach us. We are so up high, and they are unable to reach us. So now the army gives up on cutting down the tree.

#11 The people start now to see what the Word Shaker can see and now they leave the tree to grow. She leaves the tree but she takes a piece of what she will never let go of.

The Book Thief Conflicts

The Book Thief is a book that the Idea Hive is reading together. The Idea Hive is two grade ⅞ classes ,one from Snow Lake Manitoba and one from Wingham Ontario. This blog post is about conflicts in The Book Thief.

Their are many conflicts in The Book Thief. For example, there is one between the Nazi party and Max Vandenburg who is a Jew. I think that this conflict is an external force, character versus society, because Max disagrees with laws or beliefs of the Nazi’s.  Max is a Jew who lives in a basement during World War 2. The basement belongs to Hans and Rosa Hubermann. Hans made a wrong decision, which was giving a Jew some bread when the Jew was walking by with the Nazi’s. Max then left that night and never came back because he knew what would happen in the future. The Nazis would come into the house and find Max then kill the family.I think this is a lose-lose situation.

A second example of a conflict in The Book Theif is Rudy Steiner and Liesel Meminger. Rudy likes Liesel a lot but Liesel does not like Rudy. Rudy tries everything to try to get a kiss from Liesel but every time Liesel turns Rudy down and calls him a saumensh, (German swear word). I do not think that Rudy and Liesel will ever kiss or ever go out because I don’t think Leisel has ever liked Rudy in that way. But Rudy just might do a very good deed and maybe Liesel will fall for Rudy Steiner. I think this is a lose-win situation.

Another example of a conflict is Frau Holtzapfel and Rosa Hubermann. Frau Holtzapfel is Rosa’s neighbour who keeps  spitting on  Rosa’s door. This is a character versus character conflict. When the bombs hit, Liesel and people from Liesels street were all in a basement when Liesel started reading. The next day Frau Holtzapfel came over to Liesels house and asked Rosa if Liesel could read to her. Then Rosa asked what is in it for me and Frau Holtzapfel said “I’ll give you coffee and Ill stop spitting on your door”. And that was the resolution. I think this is a win-win situation.

Hans

The book that the Idea Hive is now reading is called “The Book Thief”.  So far it is a very good book, very detailed. The author is Markus Zusak. The character that  I am writing about is Hans Huberman. I picked Hans because I thought he was easy going and affectionate.

Hans has very many characteristics.  The top ones I like the most about him is that he is polite, friendly and skillful. I say that he is polite because hes always nice to people in the story even Rosa (Liesels foster mother). Hans bought Rosa eggs even though Rosa treats Hans like dirt. Hans is not the only one Rosa treats like dirt. Rosa treats Liesel like dirt too. In the one part in the book Rosa beat Liesel with a wooden spoon. Rosa kept on beating Liesel untill she was laying on the ground. Rosa is very strict but very loving,  I say Hans is friendly because he always treats Liesel excellent. He even taught her how to read and write and Hans has never hit Liesel. Last but never the least is he is skillful. I know this because he can play the accordion, he can paint and he can roll cigarettes.

Hans reminds me of my dad. I think he does because my dad is always polite and always friendly and very easy going. Hans has one very good  characteristics that I really like.  He is very giving. I know this because Hans sold his cigarettes for two books for Liesel at Christmas time.

I think the author included Hans because Rosa is mean and Hans is nice. I am glad that the author included Hans in “The Book Thief” because I think he really helped Liesel. If there were two mean parents I would not be as interested in the story as I am now.

I think that Hans is nice to liesel because I think he had a bad child hood and he does not want liesel to go threw the same thing he went threw.

Carries on from 1938 to 2010

In the grade 7/8 class we read the poem. “First They Came For”. We were told by are teacher that we had to write our own poem that is based on “First They Came For”, but in a  2010 version  instead of what happened in 1938(The holocaust). Yes it is still happening today that happened 72 years ago.

When the jocks hurt the little kids.
I did not speak out because I was not little.
When my friend made fun of this boy.
I did not speak out because this boy was not my friend.
When the muscle man made fun of the loner.
I did not speak out because I was not a loner.
But when the popular kids came for me I had no one to turn to for help.
